Many Americans taking cannabinoids for medicinal purposes have paid attention to the side effect of hemp therapy associated with weight loss. Therefore, our editors decided to find out why the plant helps fight obesity.
How cannabis contributes to weight loss?
Employees at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine conducted a study in which 4,657 people took part, 579 of them smoked marijuana during testing. As a result of experiments, scientists found that the use of hemp leads to lower cholesterol and body mass index, and also reduces the amount of fat in the abdominal cavity. Experts concluded that cannabis improves metabolism and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.
THC stimulates the CB1 and CB2 receptors, leading to increased appetite. However, the cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabivarin (DVT) contained in the plant inhibits receptor activity and reduces hunger. Therefore, for weight loss, hemp varieties with a high concentration of DVT are best suited, for example, Durban Poison, Grapefruit, and Blue Dream.
Jamming stress leads to obesity
Weight loss specialist Charlie Seltzer believes that people who use cannabis lose weight because they stop eating stress: “Take the average person in a stressful situation. He returns home from work and drinks three or four drinks and eats several dishes. 300-400 calories each. If you do this regularly, then the excess weight will increase. Marijuana allows you to leave the vicious circle, as it eliminates the symptoms of stress. In this regard, a person begins to eat less and lose weight. I “I don’t urge everyone to use hemp. But if you are taking medications that do not improve your health, then you should try cannabis.”
Seltzer cites Justin Camboroglu as an example, who gained extra pounds after injuring his spine. The Americans went in for sports, dieted and lost 45 kilograms. But due to back pain, Justin could not sleep and began to take painkillers and sleeping pills. However, traditional medicines did not have the desired effect, so the doctor issued a prescription for hemp oil. The man immediately had insomnia, and after six months he noticed that he had lost weight: the percentage of fat in his body decreased by 2% and reached 7.8%. Cannabis affects the endocannabinoid system (EX) of the body, regulating such vital processes as sleep and appetite. Most likely, hemp oil helped Justin to balance EX, which led to the restoration of sleep and improved metabolism.
